2009 ANNUAL MEETING OF THE MIDDLE STATES DIVISION OF THE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN GEOGRAPHERS November 6-7, 2009 2009 OFFICERS OF THE MIDDLE STATES DIVISION President: Lawrence McGlinn, SUNY New Paltz
About the cover: The Shawangunk Ridge (pronounced Shon-Gum), as seen from the State University of New York - New Paltz campus, is more than just a scenic backdrop to the university. Oriented NE-SW, the ridge is home to a range of unique ecosystems that thrive in the combination of conditions found only here. New Paltz is the gateway to the ridge where Minnewaska State Park, Mohonk Preserve and Sam's Point Preserve (Nature Conservancy) offer thousands of acres of forest, meadow and rock outcropping. With the ridge just to the west, the Catskills northwest, and the Hudson River not far east, students and faculty at SUNY-New Paltz have numerous opportunities to experience the environment through recreation, activism, and research.
