Meteorology and Climatology at Buffalo State

Meteorology and Climatology Program- A Niagara Frontier Option

The Meteorology & Climatology (MaC) Concentration at Buffalo State is housed within the Department of Geography & Planning. Consider packaging your interest in weather and climate with a B.A. in Geography - a science of the Earth’s physical and human features. In addition to meteorology and climatology, taking courses on human cultures, remote sensing, regional geography, map making, research methods, among others, provides context and broadens your base of study. Our goal is to provide you with a sound background in meteorology and climatology, complemented by the geographic skills of location, spatial analysis and human-environment interactions. The MaC Concentration serves as an alternative to the four-year meteorology degree. While the principles and mechanics of atmosphere dynamics are taught and applied to weather forecasting, you also gain experience working with monitoring equipment and field research, working with large data sets, applying your knowledge of weather and climate to solving real world problems, as well as applying meteorology and climatology with different disciplines. Our approach to climatology provides you an understanding of global climate patterns and their significance, the skills to reconstruct past climates, and to address climate change issues - all in a time when climate change dominates our news. Let us build on your fascination with weather. Ours is a concentration which allows you to stand out from others, as you prepare for employment or graduate school.

A minor in Meteorology and Climatology is also offered, which allows you to add a useful dimension to your existing major.
