Maps

The maps show the location and recent under custody information for NYS correctional facilities. Address, security level, and gender information were obtained from Dept. of Corrections and Community Supervision, Facility Listing. Open data on total under custody were obtained from New York State Open Data - Security Level and Facility by Crime Group, Under Custody.

The last map shows the NYS County Jails. Administrator address information was obtained from Commission of Correction. Census data were obtained from New York State open data County Jail Census. According to the website:

Jail Population By County: Beginning 1997

A file containing the average daily census by region and county for each year displayed (e.g., daily counts are averaged and then divided by the number of days reported for that year). The population report categorizes inmates by type of offender and includes: Census, Boarded Out, Boarded In, In House, Sentenced, Civil, Federal, Technical Parole Violators, State Readies and Other Unsentenced.
